Zoey Zoric, a painter based in Toronto, is deeply passionate about exploring the intricacies of relationships and human connection. Through her unique portraits, she aims to restore her audience's humanity.
Amid the lockdowns in Canada during the pandemic, Zoey noticed a disturbing trend of social disconnection. While technology proved invaluable in maintaining communication and interaction, it also hindered deeper human connection. Consequently, so many lost their sense of humanity, compassion and empathy, and Zoey's mission is to restore it.
Zoey creates her portraits using discarded iPhones and iPads, which she uses to paint everyday people. Her portraits are an intense glimpse into the subjects' souls, with a focus on their expressive eyes. Zoey portrays her subjects with a deep sense of curiosity and compassion.
Each portrait that Zoey creates is a reflection of the sitter. Zoey sees the beauty, power, and compelling nature of her subjects, even if they don't see it themselves. For many of her subjects, seeing themselves through Zoey's eyes is a life-changing experience.
